Who Was Paul?

Paul grew up in the city of Tarsus. When he was young, he studied in Jerusalem with a very famous teacher named Gamaliel. Paul was one of the most knowledgeable youths at the temple. Before his conversion, Paul severely persecuted people who had believed in Yahshua. The first believers were very fearful of Paul, because he would search for them wherever they hid and sometimes caused them to be thrown in prison or even killed.

When Paul heard that there were many believers in Damascus, he planned to go there and persecute them. But big changes were about to occur in Paul’s life. As he travelled, a bright light blinded him and he heard a voice saying, “Paul, why are you persecuting me?”

“Who are you?” Paul cried out. He must have been terrified!

“I am Yahshua - the one you are hurting! Go to Damascus - you will meet someone there.”

So Paul obeyed Yahshua’s instructions and met a man named Ananias. He was healed of his blindness and from that day forward he followed Yahshua!
